Freedom from Glasses with LASIK

Relying on glasses or contacts to see clearly can be inconvenient and uncomfortable. LASIK is a popular, safe, and highly effective procedure designed to correct for refractive errors that normally require corrective lenses. When performing LASIK, Dr. Gregory Cox first creates a flap in the outer eye to expose the cornea and then treats the cornea with an extremely precise medical laser. The entire surgery takes no more than 15 minutes, and the laser treatment itself lasts only a few seconds. After LASIK, patients need their corrective lenses less often, and many are able to do without them altogether.

VISX® CustomVue® Laser

The VISX® CustomVue® procedure allows Dr. Cox to tailor the LASIK procedure entirely to the unique refractive errors of the individual patient for better results than were ever before possible. Using detailed imaging technology, Dr. Cox creates a three-dimensional map of the cornea, identifying tiny irregularities known as higher-order aberrations that are as unique as a fingerprint.

After identifying these irregularities, Dr. Cox can design a customized treatment plan that will allow him to reshape the cornea for even sharper vision than is possible through conventional LASIK. This technique, also known as custom LASIK, gives patients a better chance of achieving 20/20 vision with fewer potential complications such as nighttime halos and glare. Because higher-order aberrations are not treatable with glasses or contacts, many patients who chose custom LASIK are able to achieve better functional vision than they had with corrective lenses.

IntraLase®

Conventional LASIK requires the use of a blade known as a microkeratome to create the corneal flap. No matter how carefully this blade is manufactured and used, its use can lead to flap-related complications. For this reason, Dr. Cox uses the IntraLase® system to create corneal flaps. This system uses a highly precise computer-controlled laser rather than a mechanical blade, which translates to fewer complications and more precise vision correction. The IntraLase® procedure is the safest LASIK procedure available.
